With its proximity to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the city of Beavercreek is in a prime location for defense contractors.

Of the top 25 defense firms in the Dayton region — ranked by the Dayton Business Journal based on prime contract awards for 2017 — more than half are in Beavercreek. In addition, several others that did not make this year’s list have a substantial presence in the city.

“When we talk about Beavercreek, (defense contractors) are unbelievably important,” said Jeff McGrath, planning and development director for the city.

These companies consistently win big contracts from the U.S. Department of Defense, many of which are awarded by Air Force missions at nearby Wright-Patt. One of the largest and most recent examples is a $50 billion deal from the U.S. Navy. Of the 23 Dayton-area companies that landed a spot on the award, 13 were from Beavercreek. The contract wins have helped the defense firms grow and expand, while solidifying the city as a hub for DoD contracting activity.
