Wright-Patt in line for $1.1 billion in new funding

The 2017 defense budget, headed to President Barack Obama’s desk, supports millions in proposed construction and a billion-plus for development programs at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The National Defense Authorization Act for 2017, which has been passed by Congress, includes about $1.1 billion for defense research and development projects and programs run out of Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patt. AFRL’s research projects have been a major part of the local economy.

“I am pleased to support this year’s National Defense Authorization Act, which will ensure our military has the tools and resources it needs to keep America safe,” said U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio. “In particular, this bill will provide additional resources to help protect and improve Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, ensuring that it remains a national leader in delivering world-class national security capabilities to our men and women in uniform.” Read more
